Mt. Desert Island
& Acadia National Park:
Majestic, Stunning and Serene
Renewal &
Re-creation
Learning & Relaxing
7-14August 2010
Mt. Desert Island and Acadia National
Park are the essence of Maine. From its striking, bold shoreline and seascapes
to its quaint fishing villages to its serene forests, you will find awesome
wonders at every turn. The island is packed with natural and historic sites.
Recreational activities include biking, hiking, kayaking, whale watching,
sailing and rock climbing. There are also almost endless choices for dining,
antiquing and browsing through galleries.
Following breakfast, each day will start
with group devotions
and an optional educational forum. The fora will conclude by late morning
each day. Then, enjoy yourself as you like, on your own or with others. The
retreat is designed to enable you to set your own daily itinerary within the
context of an informal group of S.B.S. alumnae/i. You can come with a friend
or on your own. Either way, you will make new friends, too.
You can get to Mt. Desert Island by air or car. You can rent bikes, cars, boats, etc. or get around on foot or public transportation. Join us for a few nights or the entire week. Come by yourself or with a friend. We can accommodate individuals and couples. Each room is $200 per night for single or double occupancy.
Lodging:
$200 per night, single or double occupancy. Rooms
will have twin, full, queen and king beds and will be reserved on a first
come, first served basis. Some rooms will have private baths. You can join
us for one or more nights. You can come with a roomate or on your own. The
price is per room, not per person. Room preferences and reservations are on
a first come, first served basis.
What is included in the price
($200 per night)?
Lodging only. Meals are extra, either with others or on your own, dine out
or stay in and use the full kitchen.
What other costs
can you expect?
The retreat is designed to give you maximum options and flexibility to be
on your own or with the group and determine which activities you would like
to engage, from relaxing on the deck overlooking the water to beaching, biking
and boating. It is not the "nearly everything included" package
you experienced when you travelled with us the first time. Recreational activities
may or may not require additional costs. You should anticipate additional
expenses for transportation to and from the island (many options), around
the island (from bus, to bike, to car, if you bring one) and meals.
What about meals?
The house is fully equipped and has a full kitchen, including everything we
will need for grilling. We recommend that you be prepared to pitch in for
breakfast and some general meal items, but if you prefer to go out, you can.
There is no requirement that we all eat together all the time. We may decide
to prepare our own meals, but you might want to sample some of the island's
many outstanding restaurants.
What do you need to bring?
A Bible, plus anything you will for a few days
or a week at a seaside, mountain retreat.
