This program will acquaint travellers
with Brazil's rich annd diverse cultures and peoples. We will visit some of
Brazil's most impressive cultural sites and natural wonders including Christ
the Redeemer statue in Rio, Sugarloaf and the city of Salvador da Bahia, Brazil's
first capitol. Our objective is to introduce our travellers to Brazil's natural
beauty, while exploring Brazil's imressive mix of cultures. We will become
acquainted with the dominant Catholic religioius heritage, but also Brazil's
indigenous religions and the vibrant Protestant movements that are emerging
as a powerful factor in Brazilian cultural life. We will become acquainted
with Brazil's ethnic diversity and the unique culture that emerged in Brazil
as the result of the mixing of different European, African and indigenous
cultures.
In addition, we will explore the use of the Bible not only in the processes
of legitimating slavery and colonization, but also in the faith based movements
to eliminate slavery, colonization and economic injustice.
The journey also features top shelf hotels in prime locations, such as Copacabana
beach and Pelourinho.

Daily Itinerary (abstract)
Day 1 Depart Gateway City
Day 2 Transfer to Salvador, orientation and introductions Pelourinho, including
Cathedral Basilica, Church and Convent of Sao Francisco, Museum of Afro-Brasileiro
Heritage, Church of Nosso Senhora do Rosario dos Pretos, dinner on your own
at a nearby restaurant, overnight in Salvador.
Day 3 Axe Street Children's Project, Mercado Modelo, Forte San Antonio/Farol da Barra, Museo Arte Bahia, optional enculturated worship, dinner on your own at a nearby restaurant, overnight in Salvador.
Day 4 Visits local churches, Candomble houses, optional Candomble ceremony, dinner on your own at a nearby restaurant, overnight in Salvador.
Day 5 Transfer to airport, arrive Rio de Janeiro, 15 November Square, Real Gabinete Portugeis deLeitura, Arcos da Lapa, driving tour, Ipanema, Copacabana, Red Beach, dinner on your own at a nearby restaurant, overnight in Rio de Janeiro.
Day 6 Favela Rocinha, Corcovado Mountain, Christ the Redeemer statue, Tijuca Forest, dinner on your own at a nearby restaurant, overnight in Rio de Janeiro.
Day 7 Baja da Tijuca, meetings with Pastor Antonio Costa, visit Presbyterian Churches, Sugarloaf Mountain, dinner on your own at a nearby restaurant, overnight in Rio de Janeiro.
Day 8 ACAMJG (Association of Recycling Pickers), Jardim Gramacho landfill, Rocinha-Capoeira, Samba, Meetings with Brazilian Missionaries, Favela visits with Pastor Antonio Costa (Rio de Paz), dinner on your own at a nearby restaurant, overnight in Rio de Janeiro.
Day 9 Free time, dinner on your own at a nearby restaurant, evening transfer to airport, depart for USA .
Day 10 Return to USA or continue with the elective.
Elective: The Amazon
and Rain Forest
Day 10 AM flight to Manaus. Upon arrival, we transfer for a three hour journey
by boat and van through the jungle to our Amazon Lodge, overnight in the
Amazon .
Day 11 Reconnaissance and nature safari, sunrise excursion on the Amazon
to experience the variety of bird and fish life, including an opportunity
to see and perhaps swim with dolphins, overnight in the Amazon
Day 12 Guided by an expert naturalist, we trek into the jungle to become acquainted with the fauna and flora of the region. We will visit a remote village and learn about the unique lifestyle and culture of the villagers, including their adaptability to local conditions. Afternoon transfer to Manaus, overnight in Manaus.
Day 13 Tour Manaus, including theatre, market.
Day 14 Return flight to Miami.
